Como se podía intuir por la frase que rezaba la entrada "3 days of peace & music" fué un festival Hippie, al que se le dedicaron tres días exclusivamente de conciertos musicales. Se congregaron 500.000 personas bajo un entorno pacifista al que estaba dedicado la música, pero no se limitó a eso, si no que fue un acontecimiento cultural y social histórico, que se convirtió en un icono de la época. Sus ideas principales eran la paz y el amor, y sus vestimentas y formas de vida eran coloridas y libres.
Uno de los acontecimientos más importantes lo protagonizó Jimi Hendrix, quien tocó el himno de los estados unidos con su guitarra eléctrica para demostrar que ellos estaban en contra de la violencia y las guerras, no de su país. El festival lo animaron noches de sexo y drogas, de las cuales las más frecuentes eran la marihuana y el LSD, ya que con el concepto de la psicodelia, los ácidos gozaban de bastante popularidad, lo que propició que este festival de cierto modo se sintiese por los cinco sentidos.
